Downtown Tinley Park welcomes tens of thousands of visitors each year with an exciting array of events to entertain families and friends during the winter, spring, summer and fall. Below is a list of major annual Downtown Tinley events. When: May 8 to October 1, 2014
Where: Along Oak Park Avenue in Downtown Tinley from 172nd to 176th streets

Nineteen artistically decorated benches embellished with unique materials based on the theme "Let the Games Begin" are now on display along Oak Park Avenue through Oct. 1 as part of the 11th annual Benches on the Avenue public art project.

Admirers had a chance to meet the artists who created the benches during Meet the Artists Night on June 14. Artists were posted at their benches along Oak Park Avenue to meet the community, discuss their work and answer questions about the creative process.

Meet the Artists Night was held in conjunction with the Music in the Plaza series, which runs from 7 to 10 p.m. every other Saturday in Zabrocki Plaza, 17375 S. Oak Park Ave. The benches are located just a short stroll from the concert area.

Winners of the 2014 Benches on the Avenue project were announced during the Sept. 6 Music in the Plaza event in Zabrocki Plaza. Winners included:

  • Best Young Artist: “Cranium Cadoo” by Michelle and Melissa Patino
  • Best Use of Materials: “Mouse Trap” by Amanda and Greg Cichoracki
  • Best Family Project: “Trivial Pursuit” by Garrett Gray and Phillip Gerk
  • Best Portrayal of Theme: “Tinleyopoly” by Beth Kopf, Ron Kopf, Julie Dekker and Kurt Dekker
  • Judges’ Choice Award: “Let’s Play Minecraft” by Jennifer Lilly
  • Best Group Project: “Operation” by the Illinois Institute of Art’s Tinley Park Team
  • Best First-Time Participant: “Scrabble” by Kevin Johnson
  • Most Creative: “Jumanji” by Nick Schulien

The judging panel included Karen Wegrzyn, executive director of the Tinley Park Chamber of Commerce; Mona Serpe, president of the Tinley Park Garden Club; Robbyn Yuen, decorator at Creative Cakes; Regina Ziemann, an adjunct art instructor at Moraine Valley Community College; and Wendy Bumphis, president of the Tinley Park Rotary Club.

Visit the Downtown Tinley Farmers Market every week for the best selection of fruits, vegetables and fresh flowers.


Downtown Tinley Park: Cruise NightsWhen: Tuesdays | 5 to 9 p.m. | June through August
Where: Along Oak Park Avenue near 171st Street and the Metra station

Enjoy this classic car show with no entry fee. First come, first served. Food and beverages are sold. Music provided by a DJ. Co-sponsored by V.F.W. Post 2791 and the Tinley Park MainStreet Commission.


Downtown Tinley Park: Music in the PlazaWhen: Every other Saturday | 7 to 10 p.m. | June 14 to September 6
Where: Zabrocki Plaza, 17375 S. Oak Park Ave. (adjacent to the Oak Park Avenue Metra station)

Enjoy a wonderful evening listening to music under the stars during the 2014 Music in the Plaza series. Beverages, including beer, are provided by V.F.W. Post 2791. Food also is sold, or you can dine at a local restaurant before or after the show.

Downtown Tinley Band Submission 2015
If you would like to submit your band for consideration in the Village of Tinley Park's summer line-up, please click here. Because of multiple cancellations due to inclement weather, some bands from this summer's line-up will be rolling over to next summer. Therefore, there will be very few slots open for 2015. Downtown Tinley Park: Caribbean Beach Block PartyWhen: July, 2015
Where: Along Oak Park Avenue from 171st to Hickory streets

The Caribbean Block Party offers live music on two stages, free activities for the whole family, a mini-Taste of Tinley Park, a classic car show and much more. Free trolley shuttles to the event are available.


Downtown Tinley Park: Holiday MarketWhen: December, 2014
Where: Oak Park Avenue Metra train station, 6700 South Street (south parking lot)

Stroll into the cozy warmth of our large, heated tent and shop for unique handmade crafts and creations. Enjoy tasty treats and live music by local groups and entertainers. Children will have fun making holiday crafts, writing letters for the soldiers and cookie decorating.

Downtown Tinley Park: Tree Lighting CeremonyWhen: December, 2014
Where: Zabrocki Plaza, 17375 S. Oak Park Ave., Tinley Park

Village officials will light the magnificent 35-foot community holiday tree. Arrive early for a sing-a-long to holiday music.


Downtown Tinley Park: Toyland ParadeWhen: December, 2014
Where: 175th Street to Zabrocki Plaza

Tinley’s Toyland Parade celebrates the official arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus. Our special guests will arrive at the Oak Park Avenue Metra train station immediately following the conclusion of the parade. Children are encouraged to bring an unwrapped gift for persons of any age, to be donated to a local charity. A collection center will be located near the Holiday Market.


When: December, 2014
Where: Viewing area at 177th Street along Oak Park Avenue

The Parade of Lights includes festive floats, vehicles, local businesses, community groups and school bands displaying the spirit of the season. Our guests from the North Pole will be making a special appearance.

Please note that no tickets to see Santa will be distributed after 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and after 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.
